About Us

Creators of innovative

The Caliel Foundation is a Swiss non-profit foundation based in Martigny. We design and develop innovative housing models for the elderly, intended to be reproducible throughout Switzerland.

We don't directly manage facilities: we imagine concepts, test them, and support project leaders in implementing them. Associations, existing structures, anyone can build on our models.

Who We Are

A story born
from a conviction

Facing demographic ageing in Switzerland, institutional responses are no longer sufficient. Needs are growing, life paths are diversifying, expectations are evolving. It is time to collectively rethink housing and care models.

In June 2024, Nancy Bader brought together around thirty people around a common drive: to build differently. Each brought their expertise, their energy or simply their conviction that our elders deserve the best, and that we would propose nothing we wouldn't accept for ourselves.

From this meeting, two complementary projects were born: a foundation to design and finance living spaces, and an association for daily support.

June 2024

Nancy Bader brings together around thirty people around a common conviction: rethinking senior housing.

Autumn 2024

Birth of the Caliel Foundation and an association dedicated to on-the-ground support.

January 2025

Taking over an existing site as an associative model: Les Maisons du Soleil becomes La Maison du Soleil, 10 inhabitants, 12 caregivers.

Summer 2025

Protocol development and application of the Aetheiris label to our own structure, with the goal of making it replicable throughout Switzerland.

March 2026

Opening to the community: sharing experiences, collective reflections and monthly publications.

Maison du Soleil is a small collective combining individual rooms with private bathrooms and shared spaces: living room, kitchen, garden. Every inhabitant finds their balance between privacy and social life.

A reproducible model

Maison du Soleil is not our only project: it is the testing ground for our first model. This concept is designed to be duplicated and adapted in other regions of Switzerland.
